Do you believe you’re not good at math? A new study suggests that with motivation and good teaching strategies, even those who are convinced they’ll never be facile with figures can succeed in mathematics.
Innate intelligence — as defined by IQ tests — may provide a head start, but it’s learning skills and determination that ultimately add up to success, according to the new research.
«The critical determinant of growth in achievement is not how smart you are, but how motivated you are and how you study,» said lead study author Kou Murayama, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Californi...

Parental Guidance marks one of those movies aimed at an oddly narrow demographic: grandparents.
Not their kids or their grandkids, a common marketing strategy to lure both ends of the age spectrum with time to kill over the holidays.
No, Guidance aims a sweet-if-silly bead squarely at the AARP-qualified generation. And while its senior stars do a terrific job capturing aging in a youth-crazed culture, Guidance drops the ball, in all departments, in its portrayal of anyone younger than 55.
Billy Crystal plays Artie Decker, a quick-witted minor league baseball announcer who dreams of broadc...

But don’t expect any CDC action on this epidemic. The CDC knows full well why autism rates are exploding across America, but instead of admitting the truth, the CDC is running a cover story to protect the corporate interests of the real culprits: the medical corporations poisoning children for profit (see below).
It’s not just medical companies that ar...

You want your kids to have fun on their play dates. And no one wants to be «that mom» — the one who gets all neurotic and asks if all the snacks will be organic. But now that your kids are making new friends at school away from you, a few questions are totally reasonable to ask...

Monica Barbovschi’s study uses data collected as part of the cross-national EU Kids Online II project investigating children’s experiences of (and parental concerns about) the Internet. As part of the project, children completed a questionnaire about making contact with new people online...

Up to 3,000 of the most damaged and difficult-to-place children in care are being failed by the state, according to a damning report by the chief inspector of probation and other watchdogs.
In one children’s home they found a 16-year-old who has had 31 different placements since he was taken into care at the age of three. The independent inspectors also found victims of sexual abuse had been placed in units with those who had committed sexually harmful behaviour.

New research out of North Dakota State University, Fargo, and Texas A&M shows that something as simple as the body position of babies while they learn plays a critical role in their cognitive development.
The study shows that for babies, sitting up, either by themselves or with assistance, plays a significant role in how infants learn. The research titled «Posture Support Improves Object Individuation in Infants,» co-authored by Rebecca J...
